Vintage Summary

The 2017 growing season started with the wettest winter in recorded history of the Santa Cruz Mountains, with the Glenwood vineyard seeing 92 inches of rainfall. The wet year created some challenges with tons of vegetative growth and high mildew pressure. Yields improved slightly, but the real highlight were the grapes lasting through a record heat wave over labor day weekend (highs of 115F for two days). After the heatwave, conditions were classic mild Santa Cruz Mountains in the fall. The grapes were harvested on a foggy morning of September 21st.

Winemaking

The grapes were picked by hand, sorted in the field. At the winery the grapes were destemmed into a redwood fermenter. Pumped over once daily, pressed after a 14 day fermentation. Elevage in old (10 years) barriques for 18 months. Racked to stainless a month before bottling. Unfined, unfiltered. Bottled February 13th, 2019. 155 cases produced.
