2024 ‘Serpentinite’ Riesling Orange Wine
Serpentinite is the state rock of California and is found throughout the coastal range mountains including San Benito County. This wine is predominantly about the winemaking process; it’s white grapes fermented on skins in the same manner as red wines are made. It’s made from old vine Riesling from the Wirz vineyard in the heart of the Cienega Valley.
Riesling: Wirz Vineyard, Cienega Valley (80%)
Falanghina: Calleri Vineyard, San Benito County (20%)
Winemaking
The grapes were picked by hand on September 24th to Septmeber 30th 2024. At the winery the grapes were given 17 days of whole cluster maceration time with twice daily pumpovers. The grapes were pressed to tank for settling and racked to barrel for elevage. Bottled on August 19th, 2025 after 10 months elevage in barrel, 145 cases produced, 26 ppm total SO2 at bottling.
